StudentHi, I joined the school a while ago but due to dealing with chronic illness, I was unable to really get going with it. Recently I had a conversation with a local herbalist but we got cut short. He made the comment that I didn’t need to support my immune system, I need to build it up. Everything I see says it supports or boosts the immune system. Does anybody have any suggestions how to build up the immune system? Does boosting mean building up in this instance?

Homestead InstructorEmily, what’s the nature of the chronic illness? If you’d rather not post that here, you can sure send me an email. Knowing that would help a lot with suggestions for supporting your immune system in fighting it.

StudentI am just learning more about Epstein-Barr virus (root of my issues) and wondered which herbs would be beneficial to incorporate. I find many of my clients, I’m a reflexologist are struggling as well.

Homestead InstructorThe terms build support and boost are all terms for the same thing. It’s just semantics.
Epstein Barr is a herpes virus
There are two formulas I’ve used for Epstien Barr. I don’t use them both…just one or the other.
INFXN – Epstein, Barr & Achong Formula4 Chaparral Leaf3 Passionflower Aerial Parts3 St. John’s Wort Flower3 Turmeric Root2 Ginger Root1 Licorice Root2 Calendula Flower2 Echinacea Root or Flower1 Licorice Root1 Oregon Grape Root1 Skullcap Aerial Parts1 St. John’s Wort Flower2-3 Times DailySometimes Epstien Barr is is associated with autoimmune issues. In those cases, I usually do a leaky gut protocol as well and don’ts want to do too much direct stimulation of the immune system. In cases with Epstien Barr that aren’t having autoimmune symptoms, I add some Immunity Support formula. If it’s an autoimmune case, have a look at the Autoimmune and Leaky Gut lesson in the Diseases & Herbal Interactions Section.Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentDoc, your two formulas above, the leaky gut, the digestive, as well as others I’ve read about here… are kind of confusing me as to what would work best for me. I have leaky gut, have just started with indigestion again after years of not having it, probably have candida, thyroid issues, had chicken pox as a child, so maybe herpes or EBV hiding in there somewhere, and probably a few more things that I’m not thinking of right now – gosh I sound like I’m at death’s doorstep! I’ve gotten quite a few of your powdered formulas, but I’m honestly lost as to what to focus on now (more than one?), and what herbs or formulas you recommend right now (I’ve got items in my shopping cart as I type this, but will wait for some direction before proceeding). Thank you so very, very much!

Homestead InstructorDigestive Support is a great benefit to the gut and is safe for long-term use if needed. Leaky gut is good too if you have that going on.
