        Hi everyone,

I wildcraft many if my herbs but for those purchased by mail do you think the best time to order is the late summer or fall as they will be more likely that season’s harvest and therefore fresher?

        thanks for thoughts

          Hi Alana,

          That’s a great question.

Personally, I look up where the herb is grown and when it’s usually harvested in that region. Based on that information I keep a list of what I need to order, and when to order it, if it’s something that I don’t grow myself or can’t forage locally.

          I hope that helps.

I spoke with a professional herb grower recently who said that the material he harvests takes about a year to get to customers via the herb suppliers.

Growing your own is certainly the safest bet.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Thanks Doc Jones.  I only want to purchase things I can’t grow or wildcraft here.   Examples are blue and black cohosh—while they grow in my area I have not found them in places where I can legally harvest and I make rather regular use of these with clients.  Another would be cottonroot, which I do not think grows wild here at all.

For your store, are usually replacing last year’s dried herbs and tinctures with the new crop as it is harvested in season?

                  thanks!
