I had a flower grow from a wild flower seed mix and I thought it looked like a calendula leaf, but the flower was different with many petals throughout the whole center of the flower, so I decided it was not calendula, but then when it went to seed the seeds look just like calendula how they are like little bananas coming upward from the outer edges of the center.  I should have snapped a picture, but I didn’t. Does calendula have a double variety with many petals?  Or are there other flowers with seeds that develop in the same way?  I could use some expertise identifying this one.  I love to keep dry flowers on hand for irritated or infected eyes, but I didn’t keep any because it didn’t look exactly the same as the regular calendula.  I did save seeds, but I’d like to identify it positively before I decide to use it.  Thanks for any help in this identification.

I don’t know if Calendula has any cousins that look like that. I would recommend getting the PictureThis app and seeing if that could tell you what it is

Get the book “Newcombs wildflower guide”. It is unbelievable easy to identify just about any wildflower with it.  Once you learn the system it uses to identify plant (it will take about 15 min to learn) you won’t even need to carry the book with you into the field.  You will be able to look the plant up with ease once you get home.  I have used Newcombs for 30 years and have always told my students (survival) it is THE book.

FYI,  calendula does have a double petaled variety.

Calendula seeds look like a fish hook with little spikes down the side.
