I have a couple herbal books from different herbalists. Some mention that Calendula has a perfect safty record and others mention that pragnent and nursing moms should not use Calendula internally, but I have never had a book that said why it is dangerous for pragnent woman. Does anyone have an answer to that?

Calendula is safe for nursing but not safe for pregnancy. It can have effects on the uterus that can cause miscarriage. I just posted a new lesson consisting of a couple of lists of herbs and their safety in pregnancy and lactation. It’s in the Individual Herbs Section at the very top.

The world is full of books and websites that have cut and pasted something they heard somewhere. My wife Lori (a naturopath, herbalist and professional midwife)  and I recently finished this project. We explored mountains of research and writings to make the best conclusions we could. Some of the things being said about some of the herbs generally (pro and con) are completely false.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
