My chihuahua is 12 years old and this past summer developed diabetes. We (vet and I) are suspicious of Cushing’s; however, I haven’t been able to fully test for the Cushing’s. This is because I’ve been unable to get her blood glucose to an acceptable level. I’m giving 4 units of insulin twice a day and watching her diet. When she pants heavily I have given 1.25 milligrams of melatonin in hopes to counter the cortisol. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the glucose levels? Is there anything safe to give with insulin to assist with stabilizing the glucose?
