My seven-year-old black lab / border collie mix leaks urine if she does not take a doggie prescription of 25 mg of Phelylpropanolamine (called Proin for short) twice a day. I have been told by my current veterinarian that this is because she was spayed too young by my former veterinarian, which messed with her estrogen level and now causes her to leak urine when not on the Proin. What herbs could I possibly use to replace the daily doses of Proin that would help her to hold her urine?

I talk about this in the Urinary Tract Lesson. Urinary incontinence in adult female dogs is caused by an estrogen deficiency. I don’t think age at spay has much to do with it, it just happens sometimes (rarely). As mentioned above I have a formula that often helps. It mostly contains estrogen-rich plants.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

If it’s nervous piddling in a young dog, they sometimes grow out of it.
If not, mullein root is sometimes good for various forms of incontinence (other than spayed, old girl dog incontinence).
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
