Gulliver, my daughter’s eye got scratched somehow. We’ve been washing it gently with water on cotton balls. That wasn’t good enough, so we added some goldenseal to the water. He didn’t like that much. So I mixed some powdered herbs to help rebuild flesh (comfrey etc)with coconut oil. She put it around his eye,& on his paw, so when he rubs it he’ll get it inside & out.

It is still swollen shut, but today he drank some water(with herbs & coconut oil) & ate almost a whole bowl of food. We are encouraged, but don’t know if he’s mending yet. Any ideas? Thanks.

Kittys are a bit of a disaster when it comes to herbs. They just don’t like ’em!

In the case of an infection by the eye, the problem is compounded by two things. First, anti-bacterial herbs taste even worse than other herbs and second; the location of the wound is going to make it tough to keep anything on it. She’s not going to go for having her head wrapped up with a poultice.

All in all, on a deal like this, I’d probably take her to the vet and get some antibiotics. Everyone will be happier that way. And as you probably know, if kitty ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
