StudentI had read that cayenne was a great herb to stop bleeding. Last week I cut my finger with a sharp knife. I put cayenne pepper on the wound, and it immediately stopped.
This morning I had a bloody nose. I again tried the cayenne. I applied direct pressure. The bleeding stopped.
What additional herbal remedies can you suggest to stop bloody noses?

StudentYarrow and Shepherd’s Purse both have great properties to stop bleeding. I would use them as a powder, and you could probably squirt a tincture of them in your mouth to help too

StudentAdditional styptic herbs would be bugleweed, purple deadnettle, goldenrod…. There are many more, but I haven’t memorized all of them, lol.

Homestead InstructorAll of the above is good advice. You might also do some dietary things to increase vitamin K like dark, leafy greens.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentQuestion about the bleeding formula with yarrow, shepherds purse, and bugleweed. Wondering if it would be just as effective without the bugleweed or would it be best for me to order some to include in my tincture?

StudentYarrow is a vasoconstrictor, Sheppards purse works by a different action in the actual clotting cascade. Both together works great I’m sure but I find yarrow by itself works great all by itself. When summer comes I will wildcraft some Sheppards purse and start experimenting it with yarrow together.

StudentI’m wondering about subbing the Bugleweed for some Cayenne since Cayenne does stop bleeding. I’m thinking that one might reduce the cayenne to .5 instead of 1 when doing this formula??
1 Bugleweed.5 Cayenne, 1 Shepherd’s Purse, 1 Yarrow. Thanks for your input fellow students!-

StudentI usually keep powdered yarrow in our cupboard and with five children and a DIY husband at home I have had great success using the yarrow for any cuts, bloody noses, and other bleeding issues. Stops the bleeding within seconds.

StudentSeems as yarrow and Shepherds purse are the standout herbs. And ones Doc really mentions… Maybe I’ll just leave out the bugleweed. Although I could grow it, but not sure what else I would use it for.
