My son-in-law was just diagnosed with chronic anxiety. He does have high blood pressure for which he is taking prescription medication and he has started taking Cheyenne. He would like to try an herbal treatment for the anxiety before starting in on the prescription medication. I thought St. John’s Wart and Siberian Ginseng would be a good start, any other suggestions or does someone have experience with anxiety and used something that worked for them?

Valerian is good for acute attacks. St. Johns combined with lemon balm is quite good for maintenance for some folks. Use the fresh herbs in a 1:1 tincture fir best results.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Susun Weed always first suggests Motherwort for anxiety issues.

            Emotions, Anxiety, Panic Attack Motherwort

Motherwort tincture will stop a panic attack very quickly. The more often you take it the less anxious it becomes. I would carry a bottle of tincure with me wherever I went. Motherwort is anti-anxiety.

Yes. Motherwort is a mint. Many of the mints are useful for anxiety. Lemon balm (as mentioned above) skullcap and bugleweed would be worth a try as well. Sadly, motherwort is the black sheep in the mint family as it tastes truly horrid. Not sure what happened there. The rest of the kids turned out so nice.
