StudentWhat are your best herbal medicine picks for chronic migraine headaches? (Something that would also be helpful for high blood pressure would be good!)

StudentI was listening to a podcast about managing migrants with herbs that mentioned taking 2 tsp. of ginger at the first onset as a very effective way to head off migraines. The podcast was “Herbal Home Remedies for Migraines with KP Khalsa” on the Herbs with Rosealee podcast. They discuss multiple strategies for dealing with migraines.
I’ve had great success with a high blood pressure formula based on what Doc Jones recommends. If I remember correctly it contained Hawthorn, Linden, Ginkgo, Valerian, and Cayenne.
Hope that’s helpful!

StudentTopic AuthorYes! I listened to the same podcast – actually it was 2 heaping TBSP they recommended and for the life of me I can’t imagine how you could stomach that much ginger in a glass of water! It was unclear whether they meant fresh or dry. I had a headache not long after listening and I used a heaped teaspoon in a glass of water and gosh so spicey even at that strength, it was honestly awful. Headache would have to be bad for me to want to try that again haha. But then the next day still had a headache so tried the ginger in a few capsules (much more palatable) and that worked for me. Any comments about this remedy Patrick? My husbands migraines are more intractable though and nothing seems to touch them really….he also tried the ginger capsules with no effect.

Thanks

Homestead InstructorFor some people lemon balm is a game changer for migraines.
The Headake Formula would be a good one to look at for ideas as well.Brain & Nerve HeadAke: https://homegrownherbalist.net/product/brain-nerve-headake-tincture/
Also, the Rezzimax Tuner can really be amazing for some folks.

StudentTopic AuthorYes we bought a Rezzimax tuner some time ago and I actually really like it for my (monthly) headaches, I find it really relaxing and it certainly helps. My husband is a difficult case, nothing seems to help with him, though he does still try it sometimes. Thanks for the video, reminded me that perhaps using it on a daily basis might be useful rather than just trying to treat a migraine. Do you have any recommendations on what settings to use?

StudentWhat part of Clematis do you use for headaches? I get a lot of headaches and migraines as well, most of the time nothing helps so I just suffer through it. If it’s close enough to bedtime I’ll take something with a sleep aid to help me sleep through the night and pray it’s gone when I wake up in the morning. I think I’ve seen some Clematis on my parents’ property so I might have to give that a try.

Homestead InstructorThe whole plant. Make sure it’s actually clematis of course. Also, make sure it’s the wild clematis not a cute ornamental. Taste a leaf. If it doesn’t burn your mouth after a few seconds it’s not ready. Usually August is a good time to harvest.

StudentHey Doc, Will you be doing a module on headaches and pain and the various plants to use–like going into depth about how each plant works in the body? Or is there one that I’m forgetting?

Homestead InstructorI just re-wrote/updated and added several pain modules. We did a whole weekend seminar on it last week. All that new material will be uploaded here shortly. :0)
In the meantime, if you do a search for Pain, you’ll find the pain management modules.

StudentOf Course second to Dr. P. Jones, this is one of my favorite speakers. He gives a interesting tease on L-carnitine for migraines. [of notes the link for the site he mentions as a resource is Examine.com]

StudentI suffered horrible migraines that put me in bed for hours 4 days a week quite a few years now, before I started my herb journey. I found out that I was starting the very beginning stages of acute angle glaucoma which they fixed with laser surgery. So, be sure to get that ruled out ! Although, I can still get them from mold allergies but rarely.
I discovered homeopathy long before herbs and 5 granules of Gelsemium 30ch every 15 minutes up to an hour will stop mine in its tracks. Usually 1-2 doses suffices. (I would feel pressure in the back of the head, my ears would feel full and next the aura would start with blurry vision then the flashing lightning bolts. It needs to be taken right away and I still carry Gelsemium in my purse all the time !)
I certainly feel for your husband !

StudentThis isn’t an herb, but I have been a chronic migraine sufferer for decades. I was always terrified to give up caffeine because I thought it helped my migraines. I finally, slowly, gave up caffeine and I am having far fewer headaches! I couldn’t believe it!!! I still get them when storms are coming, but at least not every other day. 🙂

StudentDoc I can second the The Rezzimax Tuner. I purchased one from the store a couple weeks back and have had
amazing success with it. It has also helped my husband’s knee pain as well as nerve pain in my elbow that was
surgically corrected (only to begin to hurt again a periodically when I do a lot of heavy lifting), Its a well worth
investment for anyone. Highly recommend it.

StudentI have suffered from migraines for many years. None of the traditional meds like Excedrin and Motrin will touch my migraines. I also watched the same podcast as some of you by Rosealee and KP Khalsa. I have been taking feverfew and just followed the bottle dosage but learned that KP would dose much higher, ever up to 2,000 mg. So I increased my dosage of feverfew taking it both day and night. Doc Jones also suggested I drink raspberry tea every night. When I remember to do those things it seems to work as a preventative but not a cure if I get one. For those, I still rely on medicine, unfortunately. The best results I have had in my over 20 years of migraines are when I eat whole foods, well balanced diet with lots of greens, low on dairy, and exercise.
