StudentIn a diarrhea formula, bentonite clay is used. If a person doesn’t have clay, is there a plant or other options that would do this same thing?
This is what I could find that clay does: Bentonite clay is sponge-like and able to absorb forty times its own weight in positively charged substances (such as toxins and pathogens) throughout the alimentary canal. Bentonite clay can not be digested, so it helps the body to excrete these waste products.

StudentTopic AuthorThanks Doc! Do you know what it binds? Toxins, pathogens, etc.?

Homestead InstructorIt’s mechanically goopy stuff that binds all sorts of things. If you take it in a large dose at the same time you take other herbs or pharmaceuticals, it will markedly lower absorption availability of those meds/herbs. Does the same thing with other stuff.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentTopic AuthorThanks for the reminder that they can bind other herbs if in a large dose. If I do take a full dose of say marshmallow root, how long until I could take other herbs and they wouldn’t be bound up by the marshmallow? Or vice versa: How long before a dose of marshmallow root should I take other herbs so they won’t be grabbed by marshmallow and made ineffective?

StudentTopic AuthorDoc, is there any reason to be concerned with taking marshmallow regularly in the normal medicinal amounts? Will it bind to anything I don’t want it to?

Homestead InstructorNot a bit. It’s nutritious and healthy stuff.
