Hello all, I am new to the school. I have a question about cleaning the herbs before drying them. I know it is easy to rinse most of the leaves clean just under the the faucet, but what do you do with things like flower heads (ie echinacea) or fuzzy leaves like mullein? And is it necessary or do some of you just brush any debris off of them and go from there? I have not seen or heard Doc say anything about how he cleans them after harvesting.

Hi!  I’m new also!  If I’m drying my own home grown herbs I don’t wash them prior to putting them in the dehydrator.  Looking forward to seeing what others do.

With the leaves that I’ve harvested, I just harvest and dust off. Sometimes, if they are covered with stuff (thanks to the mower covering them with grass clippings), I rinse them and then lay them all out to air dry. But I too am curious what others do. Thank for such a good question!

I haven’t really done any cleaning, just air dry everything and brush off anything that looks like it shouldn’t be there

If herbs looks dirty/dusty, I hose them off and let them dry again  before harvesting them. This almost never happens.

I do wash roots and chop them up before drying them.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
