StudentI’ve used colloidal silver on a whole bunch of animal trouble with great success (from ear infections to pink eye and open wounds and white line hoof disease and more). And of course, we use it for sore throats on ourselves. I am wondering what everyone here thinks of it. Does anyone know why it works?

StudentI use colloidal silver as well for all of my critters and us. I have a horse with white line disease and am now treating with a mix of vinegar and colloidal silver. Hoping it helps.

StudentTopic AuthorGlad you have confidence in it as well! It makes me wonder how it works. My donkey had a terrible case of white line disease when I got her. I used colloidal silver morning and evening on it every time I clean it out and it grew out perfectly and has never come back. My farrier had told me that she would probably always struggle with it, and was sooo surprised when she saw how it stopped even such a terrible case! So hopefully you have the same experience with your horse! I know I used so much that we ended up getting the Silver Edge colloidal silver maker which is cheaper than buying so much.

StudentI bought the silver edge maker too after having success with the expensive stuff on the market. I use it on hot spots, and more recently, on a line of missing hair on my itchy dog’s back. It definitely took care of what was itching her/causing hair loss in a strange straight line but seemed to spread away from the line so I started putting it in all directions out from the line … and it took care of that hair loss area. My dog may be sensitive to my Calendula salve as that area continued to be red/itchy … though it soothed some of the immediate itchiness. The colloidal silver seems to be a good alternative for the itch and the fleas on her tail end. I guess the bugs do not like it. It will not replace the need for other flea deterents, unfortunately. But happy it helped my girl out as that line was growing longer until the C.Silver and as an alternative to possible plant allergy when you need another option.

StudentI have been using colloidal silver for well over 20 years and use a Silver Edge brewer now to make my own (about 4 years now). It is awesome for many ailments. I completely disagree with doc Jones and his assessment of it. We have used it successfully on the following: Bladder infection for our horse, ear infections, infected wounds, respiratory problems with our chickens, toothache pain along with DMSO, wound cleansing a treatment, eye irritations, allergies, sinus infection (used in nasal spray bottle), bug and spider bites, washing fruits and veggies, cleaning toothbrushes, as a mouth rinse. We also use it for our daily cleaner throughout our home, including bathrooms, counter tops, floors, dishes, and laundry. I drink many ounces a day and use it in all of our animals waters. I even used it to treat a rattlesnake bite on my dogs tongue, pouring liberally over the bites several times a day until healed. And no, you won’t turn blue.

StudentI am very reserved about the use of colloidal silver because of it’s expense and how it is used, especially internally. I had a rabbit with a scratch on his eye and I used colloidal silver, a few drops in the eye, morning and night for 5 days, it quickly healed and the infection, which had started, was gone. I love colloidal silver! I just wish we could make it at home easily. I often use it initially on my farm for cuts or injuries that appear infected on animals as the first response to get rid of the infection quickly, then I switch to something like yarrow salve or powder for longer use. I often find that it doesn’t take long for infections to be gone and then the animals normal healing response kicks in. I have had multiple injuries in chickens heal without any major intervention just by using yarrow. What a great herb as well!

StudentOur horses get it in their drinking water, one quart per day. I use it in the chicken waterers and in their wading pools during the hot summer as the water gets yucky even changing it a couple times a day. I add some to the wild bird waterers I have out as well. I add it to my drinks throughout the day, use it in spray bottles for all of my cleaning as well. I wash dishes by hand, so use a generous amount in the rinse water. And of course we use it on cuts etc.

StudentTopic AuthorSo good to know that others are also finding it reliable! I use it without concern externally and am finding it so effective. Have any of you actually seen someone who turned grey from using too much internally? I use it internally sometimes but cautiously. However, I’ve made gallons of it, and the little silver rods we use to make it with look the same. So it really must be tiny amounts of silver. That makes me think that it would have to take drinking literally tens of gallons to have any risk of turning grey. What do you all think?

StudentWe use colloidal, silver frequently. I like the Source Naturals Brand since this is what my former boss/mentor used. However, Sovereign Brand has worked well.
The machines are an investment, however, they can make a lot of product and over time can pay off if used for large families and a lot of livestock. I place a few drops of colloidal Silver or Colloidal Trace Minerals into the water for birds and dogs. I offer water options… with or without.I had a friend who squirted some on an injured squirrel and it healed the wound. The squirrel came to her at work while she was seated at her desk.
We use it frequently, not Every day, yet anytime there is a change of seasons, feel something coming on or are around large groups of people. Websites say it is “anti microbial,” yet, I am not familiar with how it works within the body. It would be interesting to know!

StudentLucy, I use the Silver Puppy and it’s automated so that it makes a 10ppm which is what most folks recommend if you are using it for a wide variety of things, including internally. The “rods” are more substantial – I always had a bit of an issue with the super fine “rods” (for lack of a better word) with the Silver Edge that I used to use. Either way, just invest in a good one, they really are not that expensive!

StudentDawn, I’m not exactly sure what you mean by what to watch for. I think that Silver Puppy is just easier to use and the owner/creator is super helpful, and I did use Silver Edge before. So I’m not knocking Silver Edge at all (and Steve sold the business to Jeff who is also very helpful).

StudentLucy, in answer to your question about the PPM’s of colloidal Silver, I signed up for a Herbal Medicine Summit last year (can’t remember the link or name of it, I do a lot of free summits 😉 ) and one of the speakers on there said what you want to look for is 10ppm.

StudentI have used colloidal silver for pink eye on myself and family members and it took care of bad infections in just a couple applications. Have also used it for strep throat and on wounds. I have bought the sovereign silver but it seems they have changed it and I’m not sure what to buy now. I’m being very sparing with the little I have left. Any ideas?

StudentWynette – Make your silver, don’t buy the premade! I use the Silver Puppy (dumb name, great machine). It has it’s own calibrations built in so that you get a consistent product each time, and the “rods” are much more durable than most machines. And no timers and tinkering with it needed. The owner/creator is super helpful online with questions and such if needed. I don’t get anything from referring them, I’m just a happy user.

StudentSharon- I am trying to find Silver Puppy online to check them out, but I can’t find a website. Are they under a different name? I have been using colloidal silver for at least 12 years for topical and internal applications with wonderful results, but I haven’t ever ventured into making my own. With as much as we go through, a more cost-effective solution would be great!

StudentI use colloidal Silver for a lot of things. I put it in my rabbits water a few times a year. I give it to my dog when she is acting “unwell” and all my usual “go to’s” are not working, a small dose of silver seems to do the trick. 7 years ago I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and one of my symptoms was chronic bladder infections. I didn’t want to keep going on prescribed antibiotics so I did some research and found a FB group for others with Lyme disease talking about it. Yes, many of them too had chronic bladder infections and as I was reading through all of the suggestions from people, I saw one for using colloidal silver. I believe it was suggested 1 tsp, twice daily for three days and of course drinking way more water than you normally do. I have never had a bladder infection again. Anytime I feel any sign of one, I start my protocol and it never materializes.

StudentI make my own CS and use it to make my own boron supplement, its 10 ppm strength. I spray it on my husband’s itchy scalp lesions because he can’t stop eating poorly (which I’m pretty sure is the root cause of the crud on his head) and it gives me a chance to help heal him naturally.
It costs me mere pennies for each quart I make. I need to get a distiller now because distilled water is what is used to make it. I hate buying the distilled water from the store!
I drink on average about 4 oz per day! Just for general health maintenance.

Homestead InstructorColloidal silver has several anti-bacterial/anti-fungal actions. It disrupts cell membranes, interferes with enzyme and protein functions, inhibits DNA replication and generates a lot of oxidative stress in the microbes which is likely its mode of action.
I’m acquainted with several nice blue people who have argyria due to colloidal silver use internally. There are now better quality products than there were in years past. Some of the home generators are problematic (no, I don’t know which ones are good and which are bad). I wouldn’t worry about topical use. If I were to use it internally, I would buy a really high quality product and not use it long term. I have many aspirations in life. Being a giant Smurf isn’t one of them. :0)
All that said, I’ve never used it because I have lots of green things I use instead of silver things.

Homestead InstructorTo clarify my position for any that may have been confused by my post, my assessment of colloidal silver is as follows:
- It has remarkable antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.
- I know a couple of people whose lives have literally been saved by it. One dear friend of mine was comatose on a stomach tube with a horrific, systemic yeast infection. A large dose of silver into the tube reversed the situation completely.
- I know about six people who look like smurfs because their skin is very blue due to long term colloidal silver use internally…well, one is sort of greyish green. None of them seem to mind being blue.
- I think that some of the older generators were causing some issues either with the nature of the product being produced or the concentrations.
- I think there are much safer generators and much safer products currently.
- I wouldn’t use it long term for two reasons. First, strong antibiotics are hard on beneficial gut flora. I have the same feeling about herbs that are strong antibiotics. Second there is research showing that there may be some toxicity risks with long-term exposure or high dosing.
- The only reason I’ve never used it personally is because I’ve had good luck with all sorts of other things…so many remedies, so little time. I do have a couple of gallons of it somewhere that someone gave me once. If I ever run into an infection that doesn’t respond to other things I do, I’ll be happy to use it.
With any herb, medication, technique or modality, it’s wise for us to explore things with our eyes wide open and then make a risk: benefit analysis. For me, the risk:benefit analysis derived from looking at the science, and my personal observations leads me to think that topical use is vastly more beneficial than risky and that short term internal use at reasonable doses of a really good quality product is much more beneficial than risky and that long-term use when we aren’t fighting a specific problem may have more risk than benefit.

StudentI wonder what your pup is getting into to cause the sneezes? Poor guy! Would your dog let us use a nebulizer containing CS on him or spray CS directly in his nose? We just add colloidal silver to our dog and cat water daily. I just dump some in. Our horses and chickens get it too. We use a Silver Edge generator to brew ours. It pays for itself quickly. I can’t believe the insane prices at the stores for a small bottle of CS.

I’d have a vet look up his snooter. Could be something stuck up there. Could also be a mass of some kind at that age.
