Does anyone know if comfrey  and borage have the same actions?  They look similar, so I checked, and sure enough, they are in the same family.

They’re in the same family but are very different medicinally. Hound’s tongue is another cousin and is more like comfrey in its actions. I talk about it at the end of the Comfrey monograph in the Individual plants section.

            Is borage edible?

Leaf and flower are purportedly edible. Folks use them for garnishes and such. I’ve never tried it.

I had the same question, and I’m glad to see the answer. Herbalists sell borage here to make tea, and I’ve put it in a blender soup (it’s somewhat prickly raw). The flowers make a beautiful tea as well.

Mostly grow borage because bees love it. I’ve added flowers and tender leaves to summer salads for its lovely color and mild cucumber-like flavor.
