Does anyone have any information about Common Selfheal? I have read that it is good for protecting the thyroid and can help shrink goiters. I wanted to check before I add it to my hyperthyroid protocol.

Thanks and I hope you all are doing well.

Hello Nicole, I’ve been finding lots of info on Self Heal in the last 6 months. It is a very useful plant so I started growing it … mostly the info that I found where from books or herbalists of Chinese medicinals, who have been using it for thyroid health to include Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and Thyroid nodules, even thyroid cancer. You can look up studies by searching for Prunella vulgaris on nih.gov website. My understanding is that Hashimotos is HYPOThyroid condition but Self Heal is immune modulating so I would search for studies regarding hyperthyroid specifically to see if it will be useful in your formula. Since it has been noted for thyroid nodules, I would expect to find that it does have use in HYPERThyroid condition. It is energetically cooling so useful in hot conditions from sore throat to sunburn, even studies for skin protection from UV rays. It is getting use in many skin treatments commercially as it protects and helps acne conditions. It is antiviral and lymphatic as well. I hope that was helpful 🙂
