I’ve been trying find out where cramp bark comes from. After searching online I found that it looks identical to a snowball bush/tree that I have in my yard. The only difference I can tell is that mine doesn’t grow berries, only the flowers. Would the bark have the same properties? Or do I have something entirely different? Thanks

It is EXACTLY the same tree only the ornamental varieties are sterile, hence no berries.

Yup. Viburnum opulus. Harvest branches for the bark before it flowers in the spring.

Yay!!!! That makes me so happy!!! I HAVE CRAMP BARK IN MY YARD!! But now I’m sad because it’s already full of blossoms 🙁 Does that mean I can’t get any cramp bark from it until next year. Aren’t there any useful properties in it after the flowers bloom? :/

The medicine is stronger before and its lots more traumatic to the plants once they’re making flowers.
