        I found a nice patch of Cranesbill and dug up a couple of roots. They seemed to be decaying. I went to a completely different area and found a large patch and dug up the roots of a plant that had one flower left on it. The root was the same as the first, opened up, areas that were somewhat crumbly and light weight.

        Attached is a photo I took of the third root I dug up. You can see how it looks opened up.

        Are Cranesbill roots typically this way?

            Nope. Cranesbill roots usually look like…well…roots. Those ones don’t look happy. Perhaps a disease or too much water or something.
