StudentI found this recipe in a very old post here, and wanted to bring it back to life to see if anyone has tried this for the “crud of the month”. It didn’t say the parts, so I’m assuming it is equal parts.
Yarrow, Mint (is that Peppermint?), Grape Leaf, Echinacea (which part, leaf, flower, or root?), & Elder Leaf.
If anyone has experience with this or one that knocks out whatever crud is going around this month, next month, etc…, please chime in here?

StudentI’m coming down with a cold. I have everything except the grape leaf so I’m going to try it as a tea and I’ll let you know how it works.

StudentTopic AuthorHow did it work for you Ann? I was hoping for some feedback on the ingredients from several others including Doc. Hope it helped with your crud.

StudentI came across the recipe for a garlic salve, I used it on my wife and 1 yr old son and it helped tremendously with the cold they both got. It is 7-8 cloves of garlic, 1/3 cup coconut oil, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and around 5 drops lavender essential oil. Take it all and blend it up as best as you can, strain it to get rid of all the little garlic bits that didn’t get ground up, and apply it to your chest and back over your lungs and on the soles of your feet 4 times a day. There was marked improvement after the first day of doing this

StudentTopic AuthorGreg – I found something that might work even better (and faster) for your little one than the salve. Look for Barbara O’Neill on poultices and watch the part about either garlic or raw onion on the sole of the little feet and what it does/how fast it works. I like her just about as much as Doc. Though for some reason, I’ve never heard her talk about tinctures – everything else, but not that. Still great info.
But no one has answered my original question yet.
Jean – we don’t have any children.

StudentHi Sharon,
She does not use alcohol in any form because of her belief system. If you catch what she says at, I believe the time stamp: 1:00:40, you will understand she is vegetarian.

StudentTopic AuthorJean, I know she is a vegetarian, but what does that have to do with using tinctures?

StudentSimple, it points to one of the belief systems that also avoids alcohol.

StudentTopic AuthorJean – interesting. I now know she is Seventh Day Adventist, and doesn’t like dairy either. I know others in various religions that “don’t do” alcohol, but some of them do use it for tinctures, just like getting Nyquil in the store and using it… Oh well, it is what it is there.

StudentSharon, some people use spearmint with children instead of peppermint. Just a thought. Same goes for Elder parts, Depends on age as to which part is recommended.
Edited to say: I know this may not apply in your particular case.

StudentSharon, I have learned a lot from various people with different belief systems. There always seems to be an answer out there somewhere in cases where you find yourself in a situation where you dont have a normal route to go ie: alcohol tinctures. For instance . . . if you were stuck somewhere out in the wilderness with nothing but what you can remember and the only plant resources are what is growing around in your local environment (which, of course would not be alcohol) So, I am sure you agree, its nice to know there are many ways out there to deal with what one has to deal with depending on the situation at hand. Charcoal would be indispensable . . . because if you made a mistake identifying a plant, you would have an antidote for many situations.
