We noticed that our dog, English setter, cut his paw on a hike Saturday (AZ desert foothills).  I did an herbal rinse, and we’ve started applying homemade salve with Calendula, plantain, milk thistle, and a few other things.  It’s a big split and the edges aren’t quite together.  No bleeding or sign of infection.  What else do we need to do?

Some comfrey internally and topically will speed up the healing. Some antibiotic herbs internally will decrease the likelihood of infection. Have a look at the wound management lessons. :0)
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
