My sister was told that using a comfrey/horsetail salve would make a cyst behind her knee permanent and cause her permanent pain. I had given her the salve because she had been told by a Chinese doctor in China that she may have a torn meniscus, after none of their other diagnoses & solutions panned out (they like her vulnerability and have been giving her multiple diagnoses & solutions that haven’t worked). Here, she was told by a massage reflexologist that the cyst may be caused by a thyroid imbalance. I have never heard that one before after reading up on thyroid issues for over 8 years (and talking with doctors & naturopaths), so clearly am suspicious…also considering that the person does reflexology, not herbalism, and is not a naturopath/doctor. She was told that she should take chlorophyll, B3, seaweed & sea salt. I don’t think she got an idea on dosage for the B3 or anything else either.
She has never officially got the knee looked at by x-ray, MRI, etc. She has never been diagnosed with anything thyroid by a medical professional (who either tests/observes/both) either.
An aside…I fully believe that thyroid imbalances are an easy flippant fad diagnoses these days, as I was “diagnosed” with it and all that diagnoses did was mess with my life, causing a miscarriage, hot flashes and other big problems. I have heard of other bad stories about those “diagnosed” with it too. I am off all meds, etc now after having struggled 8 years with the misdiagnosed and correcting the damage it did to me by using herbs.
What is your take on the cyst? What helps those? I know some things can dissolve some cysts. Would the salve make it permanent and cause permanent pain? Would a thyroid imbalance cause a cyst at the knee? Curious here for myself anyway, because I KNOW that I have a torn meniscus AND a floating cyst at my knee.
I am really looking forward to your answer on this one. I told her that I would ask a knowledgeable herbalist and told my sister that I would get back to her.
