Obviously there’s good in cytokines, to a point.  But how do we as laypeople know if we are still in need of more cytokines or if we have reached the point where we are in a storm and need to reduce the cytokines for safety and health of our body (and probably our mind as well)?  I’m sorry if the answer to this is in a module – honestly between spotty internet and totally feeling like Krap – I can’t manage to stay focused on the content in a long video.  I just need to get rid of my pneumonia and feel normal again.  I have felt awful for almost 3 weeks now!  Please guide me?

To further elaborate my question – when a person first gets sick, one would think we need to kick the cytokine production up a notch to fight the crud.  But how in the heck does one know when there has been enough and one should “quit feeding” the cytokines with lots of herbs that kick UP the production – and shift to herbs that slow things down and more or less turn off the cytokines?  I hope my questions make sense – it’s hard to try and pick this out of the general info on the web since they don’t even understand herbs for medicinal use to start with.  But further the issue by indicating that you can’t know if you have a “storm” without medical tests.  Surely there is some way to know which side of the cytokine fence you are on at a given point…

This is what I have found out about recognizing a cytokine storm:

When there is a sudden worsening of the patient’s condition, suspect a cytokine storm.  If any of the below listed symptoms are present, AND WORSENING, there may be an over-reaction of the immune system.

Fever and chills, fatigue, Swelling of the extremities, nausea and vomiting, muscle and joint aches, headache, rash, cough, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, seizures, tremors, difficulty coordinating movement, confusion and hallucinations, lethargy and poor responsiveness, and very low blood pressure.

Grape leaf tincture is said to be helpful in regulating an over active immune response.  I hope you are feeling better !!!

I wonder if a grape leaf tea would work just as well? Just be prepared for the astringency!

For me, as soon as it starts to move down into my chest.  There’s a video blog from Dr. Jones about this, and this is what I believe I recall him saying.

Thanks!  He doesn’t really say how you know WHEN to switch gears.  Are you saying that you (personally) start “reducing” cytokines when you start getting lung congestion?  Been using my “goober tea” all along (hollyhock leaves, mullein, and peppermint), but there is still quite a bit of gunk in the lungs even though (FINALLY) the cough is less horrible.  The earlier cough would have most people running to the hospital I think – but I hate hospitals now for the last several years.  I keep thinking “I’ve got my herbs – that’s better than a prescription they would push at me”!  Sure hope Doc will chime in soon.  I have an all day driving trip coming up in a few days and would like to feel more like a human by then!

Laura and Heidi are both correct.

“Cytokine storms” are abrupt events that manifest in respiratory cases as an acute fluid build up in the lungs. Grape leaf or the Cytokine balance formula are helpful. Obviously that is also a good time to cut back on cytokine stimulant herbs too.

Click Here to read the recommendations for the Respiratory Preparedness kit. I talk about when I use which formulas.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
