StudentDoc,
Do these increase or decrease cytokines?
peppermint, Monarda fistulosa, oregano, thyme
Also, I also have in my notes that dandelion is an immune stimulant. Is that correct? (I cannot find where I got that info.) And if it is correct, what is the action as to how it stimulates the immune system?

Dr. Patrick Jones
Homestead InstructorAll of those decrease cytokines. Dandelion has tons of antioxidants and also does have some direct benefits for the immune system. Also, some indirect benefits by eliminating toxins via the liver and kidneys.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentSo, in a “cytokine storm” that you refer to in your grape leaf video, if we don’t have access to grape leaf would oregano or thyme or peppermint be a substitute?

StudentDoc Jones, how can I find the lesson where you talked about cytokine storms? This is where I struggle, when an issue arises I can’t remember which class covered that specific issue. I thought you had listed some examples of which herbs increase and which decrease. Autoimmune lesson mentions it, but the PDF has little info. I will have to watch the video again to see if there is more.

Homestead InstructorCytokine storms are talked about in the respiratory lesson. We’re working on some ways to beef up search capability.

StudentHave you looked into “searchie.io”? I am in different type of group that uses this, and it even searches content INSIDE the videos! Pretty amazing program based on my limited experience with it.

StudentI found it! I stopped fretting and turned my attention to doing my Bible study focusing on worship. When I finished the Lord directed me to the Respiratory class and there on pg 36 of the PDF was cytokine storms. He is so awesome.

Homestead InstructorLicorice has some immunomodulatory effects that can decrease cytokines. Marshmallow may have some mild decreasing action as well do to some of its anti-inflammatory traits. None of the others affect cytokines either way to my knowledge.
