Doc has a formula – Bone Tissue Cartilage- that would be a great place to start.  Comfrey if you want a simple.  Because it’s the hip consider teasel or st johns wort for the nerve impact.  Also suggest Nutritive tincture or a similar blend maybe with horsetail for silica so her body has the building blocks for bone repair.  Hops spray for pain while recovering too.  Hope this is a help for you and your aunt!

Some joint support internally to cut down inflammation and pain might be good. Also, Echinacea can really be helpful with cartilage repair. It stimulates hyaluronic acid production which is a major raw ingredient of cartilage.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
