        Hello,

Im rather new to using herbs and haven’t had much experience using them on my animals for any significant cases yet. However, I do have a dairy cow that needs to be dehorned but she’s pregnant right now. Would this process be too much for a mama cow?

If I decide to go with the process, I would try to using the bleeding powder sold at the homegrown herbalist shop.

Any one have any thoughts or experience on the best way to go about this process?

I would recommend waiting until after she calves. Also, I wouldn’t de-horn anything this time of year. Wait until the flies are all dead.

Bleeding powder will help. You can also buy a cauterizing unit pretty inexpensively. You may also need to pull the larger arteries with a pair of hemostats. On a cow, you’d need to use a saw rather than the regular gauging dehorners.  I’d have a vet do it on an adult animal like that unless you’re experienced.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
