Dog injured in hips

What would be the best things to do for a dog that seems to have been kicked by a horse in her hips? She stands awkwardly on her back legs, is obviously in pain, and sometimes has trouble standing up. This happened a couple of days ago.

Has she seen a vet? She should really get an x-ray, to check for fractures. You need to rule out internal bleeding too. But for the bruising make a tea out of arnica. You can find it in the Hispanic aisle of your neighborhood grocery store. DO NOT DRINK THE ARNICA TEA! Soak a cloth with tea, then put the towel on the sore places, and leave it there for a bit, or as long as your dog is content to lie still.

We have been putting a mix of comfrey cream and arnica gel and some deep blue on the area. We don’t have any banamine on hand so have been giving her some Aleve in food. She can still walk and stand on it but I do think it is broken. She just chooses to lay under the heat lamp in the doghouse now and threw up the last food with the Aleve we gave her. If she had an x-ray, are the hips a place that could be casted? If an x-ray would be helpful do you have any openings today, Dr. Jones? We live in Twin.

Aleve is not safe for dogs. Neither is Advil, neither is Tylenol. Baby aspirin is usually safe.

Call the clinic to see if they have openings. Doc may not see this right away.

We took her to a vet in town since it’s Saturday and we couldn’t get into your office. Blood work shows very raised indications of eminent kidney failure. Any herbs or treatments that we might use as a last resort?

Dandelion leaf. Cranberry. Mallow. That’s what I would do, if it were my dog. What did the get say/do? Are any pharmaceuticals involved? Herbs can and do interact, so use caution about mixing. What are the odds of recovery? I’m very sorry, I know your dog is suffering, and it is a hard thing to see. I hope she rallies.

Some marshmallow would be a WONDERFUL addition to that mix as well. If the kidney(s) are failing that is probably the most urgent thing to care for at this time.

Did anyone tell you why the kidney(s) were failing? Where are you located?
