StudentDoc, I have a 15 yr old 18 lb. Miniature Schnauzer who has Cushing, and sneezes and has thick yellow mucus that she has had for a few years and the antibiotic treatments from vet did not work. Also, recently she was put on Lasix 50mg a day for anemia, her heart was slightly enlarged, and also Enalapril 5mg for HBP when her urine/ kidney test came back. I want to use herbs instead. I do have her on your Immunity And INFXN support, 1/8 tsp 2xday, wondering if I should increase it, to 3 or 4 times a day? I also give her 1/4 tsp of nanotechnology silver , and Zyrtec. I know cinnamon and ginger is good for HBP and with her weight I should only give her 1/8 tsp but how many times a day? Or do you recommend something else? I do not want her one prescription drugs long term. Her vet knows nothing about herbs so he could not give guidance. Oh, she is on Trilostane .66 ml once a day.

StudentHi Kim..I see that you have asked a question about Heart Disease for a Mini Schnauzer.I am currently researching Hawthorn and Ginko as my 11.5 year old schnauzer has some heart disease and some loss of Kidney Function. I have a friend who takes Ginko and it has improved her Kidney function (which according to medical science just doesn’t happen.and its good for heart as well. I am also going to give her Hawthorn as well. I just need to work out dosage. Obviously its much better to talk to Doc as he knows how much to give. Although he does have guidelines for animals by weight. I also have a book called herbs for pets which is really very good.Hawthorn is recommended and it doesn’t increase blood pressure and is a heart tonic that is known not to interfere with other medications in humans and in my understanding it is very safe. Ginko also improves blood circulation and there is a recipe in this book that includes both these herbs. I hope you find answers and that this at least gives you a couple of clues. Perhaps you could ask Doc about these too herbs for your little dog.
