My practitioner is recommending liquid iodine or the tablets to increase my iodine levels.  I prefer to stick with the herb!  My iodine loading test was 74%.  Trying to rid my body of a complex cyst 1.9cm sitting just superior to my spleen.  2 sonograms with no change within a 9 month period. I have started castor oil pack over the area. Waiting for another option(herbal) before starting the iodine load protocol.  What would a ND, master herbalist do? :). Thank you.

If you do go on liquid iodine, check out J. Crow Lugol.  I use a lot of it.  I have an absorption issue due to a toxic mold injury to my thyroid.  You could try diet and increasing your B2 and B3 to help with absorption and organification. Hope this helps.

Here are some herbs that have decent iodine levels:

            • Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus)
            • Kelp (Laminaria spp.)
            • Dulse (Palmaria palmata)
            • Irish moss (Chondrus crispus)

Of the four, bladderwrack is highest. Growing conditions, processing etc… can affect the levels. Seafood (Fishies, shrimp etc…) are a good source of iodine too.

I don’t know that any of the above will provide levels anywhere near what actually taking iodine would do.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
