A friend’s husband’s arch in 1 foot “fell”. He walked on it for 8 mos before going to a doctor. It had deteriorated and was “spongy”, so the dr injected something to harden it. It feels like he has 2 heels and its been giving him excruciating pain for months now. He has special shoes to try to push the arch back into place, but they put so much pressure on this hard mass, and causes even more pain.

I am thinking he needs cramp bark, lobelia, valerian, willow & maybe some anti-inflammatories like the joint support tincture. Thoughts?

His other foot is beginning to drop as well. What can prevent more damage?

          Hi

Sarah, I’m sorry you haven’t received a reply. I just joined the school so I have no wisdom for you. By dropped foot, do you mean the arch as you explicitly said or does he also have drop foot meaning that the long muscles of the leg are not working so he cannot lift his foot to a 90 degree angle? I have the latter from a neuromuscular disease and would be interested in anything pertaining to that as well. Wishing the best on your journey!

I’m so sorry to hear of this! It sounds quite complicated and it is hard to understand the whole situation. It seems that anti-inflammatory herbs and pain-relieving herbs could help, but they probably wouldn’t treat whatever underlying cause is there.

If he has a diagnosis of foot drop, the doctor needs to refer him to an orthotic to get him an AFO. He needs to see a therapist at a prosthetic company or a podiatrist. Once he gets his orthotics, he needs to have some physical therapy to work on his walking it sounds. Is he seeing a podiatrist for this issue now? I don’t have herbal remedies for you now but this is what comes to mind.

I’d look into chiropractic for these foot issues, and specifically it may take retraining how to walk. Dropped arches could be the results of bad habits.
