        Hello!

I am about to harvest my first crop of Cayenne peppers, so excited!  I have been researching how people dry them but all seem to be in sun or in a dehydrator.  I always dry my herbs in almost dark and with air flow to retain their qualities like Doc says but are peppers different?  Can they be dried the same way or will they mold?  Can mold develop inside even if they are not punctured?  How do you dry your peppers?  Any tips is greatly appreciated!  thanks!

That’s great! This is my first year growing peppers as well. So I harvested a few of mine that were ready, and kinda just tossed them in an open container and forgot about them haha. I just checked on them the other day and a number of them had dried up nicely, so it seems to have worked for me

They were on a countertop, no direct sunlight but they were in a lighted area

I grew peppers this year for the first time too. I split the peppers lengthwise and put them in a dehydrator, do you think I did it wrong?

Hello Dustin, I have grown, dried and ground my own cayennes for the last couple of years, I like you cut them in half and put them in my food dehydrator on the lowest possible setting 40c until the peppers dried. I then powdered them and it worked great for me. I have used them for remedies, on food and infact I have just used the last of my 2year old powder in for a tincture and the cayenne seemed to still have all its vibrancy and Vigour. Hope this helps Paul 🙏

A way i saw my grandma dry pepper for years and years before she passed was using some sewing thread. She would sew them like a necklace and hang them on small nails in the basement. When she could not get fresh anymore cause of the snow down in the basement she would go and get dried peppers of all kinds.
