I have a duck that has suddenly gone lame. She has some round spots with darkish centers on the bottom of her feet but they do not look red or inflamed at all. Bumblefoot seems to be the most common reason for a duck going lame, though I suppose it’s possible she twisted an ankle or something. Instructions I find on bumblefoot say to do surgery – cut the dark center out. Not interested in doing that, especially when I’m not even certain that’s the problem. Is there a poultice that would be good? Maybe I could make her a sock to hold it on. Would appreciate any advice you can give me!

Responding to my own post: I just remembered that yesterday one of my ducks got her leg tangled in a piece of electric fence (not powered) and I had to untangle her. That is probably the duck that is limping today. Is there anything I should do to help her heal or just figure that with time she will get better?

Arnica in a liniment maybe? I don’t know anything about ducks though. If you have any calendula see if she would eat some.

My usual remedy for poultry issues is Shake n’ Bake but I’ve never tried it on a duck. Works really good on chickens.
The poultice formula will heal wounds on any species…but it doesn’t taste as good as the Shake n’ Bake.
