We have a duck that got a small cut about an inch long clear eyes cleaning himself but swollen. We are worried about infection. What can we give him?

Do you worry that it is already infected? I always rinse animal wounds regularly with colloidal silver to avoid and fight infection. I don’t know how easy it is to give duck herbs, but I would think calendula, oregon grape, or gumweed would be good.  You could also put some of those herbs like especially oregon grape on topically. And once you’re sure there’s no infection, I follow up my animal wound cases with comfrey to speed healing. I’d be curious what other folks do though. Managing animal wounds can be a big task!

Also, it depends on where the infection is on the animal, but when I had a wound get infected on my donkey, I took rags dropped in water as hot as the animal could stand and pressed against it. That brings circulation flooding to that area with white blood cells. It also helps the infection come to a head.

thank you so much, we have been doing Epson salt baths for our duck and he is loving it but the rag is a great idea!
