I’ve had a throat and chest cold recently. I think it’s the same one my sister had. She took Echinacea and it stopped her cough so she could sleep. I tried it and it did help quite a bit for a while. Does anyone know if a constituent in Echinacea actually stops or decreases a cough or was this simply a coincidence or maybe placebo effect?

I just listened to the respiratory module today – actually multiple times, since I was at work, cleaning a house, and I sometimes miss some and try to catch it the next time around. Anyway, the topics were colds, flu, etc., and echinacea was one of the herbs to use. Doc Jones said echinacea is immune-stimulating and antimicrobial. It shouldn’t be taken if the flu has gone into the lungs as it may worsen a cytokine storm. It is a mild herb so take it with a stimulating herb like peppermint, ginger, cayenne, yarrow… to help your body notice it, and take a tablespoon every three to four hours or so. He didn’t say anything about coughs in relation to echinacea…

I don’t know of any cough0suppressing properties but it does kill the bugs.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
