I just made a echinacea root glycerite from my own echinacea purpurea roots and for some reason the glycerite makes my mouth tingle slightly for 3-5 minutes. I know I harvested the right plant. Is it normal for it to tingle?

          Hi Liberty Lewis,

According to Veterinary Herbal Medicine, recommended by Doc Jones, the Eclectics defined good quality echinacea root “as imparting a persistent tingling sensation. A French herbalist also wrote about a sparkling taste on the tongue.

I usually mix echinacea tincture in water, but one time I tried just squeezing the tincture straight into my mouth. I will never do that again! Not only was it tingling, but (and this sounds really crazy) after I swallowed it, it tasted like my mouth and tongue were producing salt for several minutes and did not return to normal for a while.
