I have a family member who has Fibromyalgia.  He is on a pharmaceutical, that really doesn’t help much.  He also has been taking Kratom for about a year, which does offer some relief.  I just purchased cramp bark, which he isn’t noticing any difference with that.  Are there any other herbs or combinations that would assist with the constant pain?

I would greatly appreciate any insight for him, but also there are other people in our community that have this issue as well.  It would be so nich to share something that might assist them.

        Thanks in advance!

        Health, Happiness & Blessings!

          Hi Jami,

I’ve had remarkable results with teasel on a few cases. I also do a Leaky gut protocol on autoimmune cases which often helps.

Fibromyalgia is sometimes caused by Herpes 4 (Epstein Barr Virus a.k.a. mononucleosis). If the above don’t change things markedly, I’ll address that with an anti-herpes formula. Have a look at the Autoimmune & Leaky Gut Lesson in the Diseases Section.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Thank you so much Doc Jones!  I appreciate you.  I have been getting herbs that I have been “playing” with at Starwest Botanical.  I did get some cramp bark from you.  They don’t have teasel, is that not a very common herb?

Thank you again!  I will definitely be digging into the diseases section.  I still need to get through the first bits of your course to understand how to do things here.

              Have a wonderful blessed night!

Teasel isn’t currently very fashionable…sort of like bell bottoms. But it works great.

Good information.  Seems like Fibromyalgia, has always been a question mark for so many.  The more we learn the more that this makes sense.  Thanks again.

I have Teasel brewing right now for  Lymes/Fibromyalgia. I have also found the hops tincture helps offset muscle pain during the day. Sleep disturbances (lack of REM) can add to the pain syndrome with Fibromyalgia so, I am testing out a mix of  1 part valerian root, 1/2 part Hops strobile, 1/4 part lavender flower with 80 proof alcohol to see if it helps with the lack of REM sleep, muscle pain, lumps, bumps, cysts and rigidity.

Jami – I know this is not an “herbal answer”, but I’ve had fibromyalgia for many years, but I discovered that if I removed ALL products that were not completely safe (many safe enough to eat or drink) and that included body care, laundry, etc, that my symptoms were not only manageable, but virtually gone. I can still on rare occasions get a flare up, but haven’t had one in MANY years just by keeping unhealthy products out of my house. It’s kind of hard at first to weed out the bad stuff, but the EWG website (environmental working group) really details the toxicity of the countless ingredients in things you bring into your house. Hope this helps somewhat. I knew a lady who’s fibro had gotten so bad she was wheelchair bound, but cleaned out her house like that, and later I hear she had become an 18 wheel driver (have you ever climbed up into one of those!?). So I know from myself and her that “toxin removal” works! NOW I know that the herbs can do for the inside of us what I did to the house – take out the junk and improve. Do both? A win win! Hope it helps your family member.

Healing answers don’t have to be herbal. :0)

Great post Sharon. Eliminating toxins from getting into the body and causing problems in the first place markedly minimizes the work herbs have to do.

I have post lyme and/or rheumatoid arthritis and have found that my aches and pains have been releived by rubbing on Pine Needle tincture and also injesting Dr. Jone’s Chaga Tincture twice a day. Hope this helps!

I’ve had a history with Fibromyalgia, myself, at just 34 years old. I used to work in a pain management clinic, so I know that once you get put on Rx pain meds, they’ll never let you get off of them. I’ve struggled to find any real long-term solution, but have managed to stay off of Rx meds through herbal means. All of my books have stated only 2 solutions for fibromyalgia… both of which I am allergic to, and one of which is considered illicit. There isn’t much better help with an internet search as relates to natural medicine. Topical uses of essential oils like helichrysum and peppermint help in the interim, but are just temporary pain management. Yoga did nothing. Nothing helped brain fog, nothing helped fatigue. I have discovered that Cat’s Claw combined with Meadowsweet (in a 3:1 ratio) has been extremely effective for nerve pain and very effective for fibromyalgia pain. I do not want to just keep dosing myself with, essentially, pain medication forever, so I do not see this as a long-term solution, but it does help for those miserable days that breathing itself is an unbearable chore. I have found success in a carnivore diet. I still get some aches, but most of my pain is gone, the brain fog has lifted, and I’m more motivated and less fatigued. Some claim long-term benefit and others do not. I am still searching for a better solution (especially as I’m not a particular fan of meat OR eggs!). I will try adding teasel to see if this improves my symptoms enough to be allowed to cheat a bit on my carnivore diet, as I’m going crazy with just meat, eggs, cheese, and coffee/tea. Have people seen their symptoms cured from teasel and the auto-immune cleanse? Or just better management of symptoms? Thank you, Dr. Jones.

Because fibromyalgia is typically an autoimmune issue and/or a herpes infection (Epstein Barr virus), cure isn’t going to happen. The realistic expectation is management to decrease the frequency and intensity of flareups and symptoms. I’d guess that decrease in simple carbohydrates (and therefore inflammatory insulin levels) is the reason the carnivore diet is helping. I suggest a more “Paleo” approach, in other words add some real veggies with low gycemic indices (ie…no corn or white potatoes) and see if you continue to get the benefits you’re getting.
