        Doc,

During one of your herb walks you mentioned that a lot of herbs that are on the market are from Europe were the regulation on Gasoline still allows lead. That compound is entering into a lot of the herbs that are being process and sold here. As I look at a lot of the sites where herbs can be purchased including Mountain Rose Herbs, they are sourced from around the world other then the USA. Am I being too particular about this in avoiding purchasing herbs other then domestically cultivated? I am trying to finalize my list of 30 – 40 herbs that will make up my core source of medicinal herbs and am doing so by sourcing some of them from on line retailers also. Thoughts?

        Thanks!

Yes, while Moutain Rose Herbs has a great selection of organic herbs, that only takes into account the actions of the farmer himself. That does not include actions of those around him and other environmental factors.

Chemical contamination certainly is a concern and should be considered. Lead and other heavy metals can and do accumulate in our bodies. They are not easy to expel.

Fortunately, there are many good online vendors to choose from. You need to decide what level of risk you are willing to take and proceed accordingly.

Patrick and I are trying to learn how to grow what we need personally and also for our business. Sure gives a better warm fuzzy about the plants.

I would contact the company you want to buy from and ask what sort of testing they are doing. Many of the good companies are routinely testing for lead these days.

As Steven said, we are anxiously engaged in producing a product line with as many “homegrown” ingredients as possible in order to solve this problem.

            Have a look:

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
