Doc: You said at a recent workshop that Siberian ginseng does all Panax ginseng does but gentler. And then, I think, something about how Siberian ginseng, if taken in the afternoon, could help a person sleep better because it helps the brain do what it’s supposed to do. My question is two fold, 1) Did I get that right about the brain and Siberian ginseng? And, if yes, does Panax ginseng do the same thing to the brain, in helping sleep?

Yes. Siberian Ginseng’s effects are very similar to Panax in that it is an over-all tonic for many body systems and it is milder and has a more “Yin” energy than Panax.

Folks that are taking Siberian Ginseng do sleep better. I think it probably stimulates normal melatonin production.

I haven’t noticed this effect as much with the Panax but I rarely have folks on Panax long term Like I occasionally do with Siberian. I”ll have to pay more attention. 🙂

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
