        Hello!

After Docs video on Ginseng I decided it might be worth looking into getting some.  I looked at a Canadian website of what they describe as superior quality ginseng grown in Ontario and they have a Quality assessment report and to my surprise there are levels of heavy metals listed and one is lead. After looking further this appears to be common in ginseng. Is it because of artificial fertilizers? It also appears to increase in strength the older the root. I am thinking if someone was on ginseng for a long time this would accumulate to unhealthy levels not that there is any real healthy levels. Is this common in all root herbs? Your thoughts are appreciated on this. Here are a few links and an excerpt.

…..Results from 200 differently-aged Chinese ginseng showed that increased ginsenoside content in 3 to 5-year-old ginseng was paralleled by increased heavy metal element content in ginseng and its soil. The activity of rate-limiting enzymes increased in the first four years of ginseng growth and then exhibited a steady or downward trend. Further analysis suggested that heavy metal elements in soils could directly affect ginsenoside content. Moreover, we found that Cu significantly affected the rate-limiting enzyme CYP450 activity.
