Student<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi all! I’m a new student; first time post. I have a year old nanny who kidded 3 months ago. She seemed to have picked up a parasite load during that time. I wormed her herbally. She’s seems to be recovering now; no fever, no diarrhea, appetite has increased. However, she still seems to be a little sluggish and she’s grinding her teeth. Any idea about the cause of the teeth grinding? Also, any suggestions for herbs to finish bringing her up? Her normal diet consists of free access to brush/grass and supplemental grain feed at suppertime. She is currently quarantined (stalled) from the others. We bring her various greens. Any advice is highly welcomed. Thank you all!</p>

StudentTopic AuthorUpdate: I believe her teeth grinding issue is related to respiratory mucus. It appears she’s coughing it up to expel, but then chewing it as if it’s cud. Any ideas on how to help a respiratory infection in a ruminant? I’m thinking that an expectorant would not be as effective for ruminants than with other mammals.

Homestead InstructorRuminant lungs are pretty identical to everyone else’s. It’s just their bellies that are silly. :0)
I use the same respiratory herbs on goats that I use on humans. The only difference is that goats chase you around the pen for seconds.Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Homestead InstructorYup. They do. It’s often a bellyache or some such. You might try some digestive herbs. Marshmallow, chamomile etc (Digestive Support Formula)
