StudentI understand that it will take a while with the plants to learn them well but I am wondering (since I have tried for a while) if there is a simple way to tell the difference between ragweed and golden rod?

StudentI understand the confusion. I used to look at a gorgeous field of what I thought was ragweed, and think that it was too bad it made everyone suffer so much. Then my sister, a master gardener, told me that it was goldenrod and to go ahead and enjoy it. Ragweed isn’t golden, and you can barely tell it’s in bloom (unless you’re having an allergic reaction). If you do a Google search “goldenrod vs. ragweed” and click on images, you’ll see pictures of them side by side.

Homestead InstructorGoldenrod on the left has a single leaf…like a little surf board. Ragweed has a multi-lobed leaf.

StudentThank you for the visual. That is very helpful. We have a lot of goldenrod too that I thought was ragweed. Glad I can learn to tell the difference. 🙂

StudentSo those pesky weeds that are taking over the unmown pasture is ragweed. I was told it was giant ragweed but either way the goats love it. Thanks, Doc, for pics.
