It is the Great Depression and there was an accountant who was out of work and getting desperate. He heard of a work project on the other side of town that was hiring carpenters and decided to give it a try. He shows up on the project and convinces them that he is a carpenter so they hire him and send him out to work. He steps out onto the job site and hasn’t a clue what to do. So, he picks up a two by four, puts it over his shoulder and walks around the job site for the rest of the day. The next day, he picks up a two by four and does the same thing. Half way through his third day he notices a man following him. OK he thinks, they are on to me. So he puts down the board and walks back to the man following him and says ” Look, I’m an accountant, not a carpenter, but I really need this job.” The man who was following him puts his hands up in surprise and says “I’m not going to say a word! They hired me to be your helper”.
True story.
