I just recently learned that elderberry is not good for people with Hashimoto’s because it ramps up the immune system and can aggravate Hashimoto’s symptoms. Looking for a good alternative to elderberry that won’t have this effect. Thanks!

Interesting, Tina. I have not heard anything about it but I will follow this thread as I have a friend who’s daughter was diagnosed with early signs of potentially developing Hashimotos so she will probably need to be aware of this if it is true. Thank you for bringing it up.

(P.S. If I had to guess, any autoimmune condition should avoid immunostimulating herbs out of caution. I have also heard disagreement whether elder is immunomodulating or immunostimulating so, again, interested in experienced feedback.)

I’m interested in following this thread as I use a lot of Elder and have thyroid issues. While I have never noted that elder bothers me, I am interested in hearing the discussion.
