StudentHi! I am pretty much brand new to herbalism, being a naturally skeptical person. But I decided to be skeptical of my skepticism and dive in to this. Herbal medicine seems like a natural extension of my life–I love nourishing my family with healthy whole-ingredient homemade foods. I’ve been making my own soap and calendula salve for two years. I garden and preserve food. My husband and I were both homeschooled and spent many days on “field trips” to parks, on hikes, and exploring the beautiful world created for us. I have started the homeschool path with my own three children, ages 5, 3, and my nearly-1 Christmas Eve baby.
We spent the past 3 years plagued with sickness after sickness, feeling helpless to relieve symptoms, dissatisfied with OTC solutions or expensive commercial “natural remedies.” I have been learning everything I can online for free, and finally signed up for the school. I can’t wait to learn even more and put this knowledge to practice to help serve my family and friends!
Since the first assignment is to make a post with a question or something I’ve learned, I thought I would share this. Let me know if you think it was coincidence or a real effect!
This past week I have been suffering from excruciating tooth pain after getting 3 cavities filled. While waiting to go back to the dentist, I used clove oil and whiskey on a cotton ball to help numb the area. After 10 days of clove and as little OTC painkillers as I could stand, I said “I’m not taking painkillers again today!” Sometime during my brain fog of pain radiating all around my head, while caring for small children, I kept thinking, “If only I had something to snap these nerves back into line.” I don’t yet have a functional collection of herbal medicine, but I remembered that the mint family does stuff to nerves and that lavender can sometimes help with headaches… I have lavender! Maybe it was a coincidence, but with the lavender and the clove I feel like a new person. The radiating pain in my head is now just a minor stabby ache in my tooth.
Well, now that I’ve over-shared, I cannot wait to get back to studying!

StudentGood evening, Kelly! I think it’s great that you knew about the mint and lavender to help you. Hopefully, your toothaches are much better. I want very much to be able to do what you did on any issue life will confront me with.
Best of luck and show the kids they can do this too.ViCindy
