StudentCan you recommend a good herb that will permanently get rid of my plantar wart on my foot? I have had it for 13 years and have tried everything from over the counter products to months of going to the doc to have it frozen/burned off – all to no avail. Also have tried salycilic acid , tea tree oil , duct tape…thuga occidentalis for months. Nothing has worked. Help! Any advice is appreciated.

StudentHi Jenny, First, if you look at the Skin module, the herb portion on Garlic reads that the juice works on warts. You can look there. As my daughter has the same issue (swim team/lifeguard 😉 we are going to start trying that remedy. Just to double down, we recently heard good results from a study. Feel free to give it a go with us and we plan to smash to garlic and allow to sit for 5-10 mins before applying to the area. For good measure, we thought she’d take a clove internally too, at the same time in a warm tea with honey. We are doing this twice a day and re-evaluate in a couple weeks. Maybe stop the internally portion at that point and continue with the topical.
If you want to follow the study (2005), it was found sourced on the Wiley Library website (dermatology) and a summary is: “A fat-soluble extract of garlic removed 100 percent of warts and almost all corns in one to two weeks in a clinical study published in the International Journal of Dermatology. A water extract of garlic removed small warts and reduced the size of larger ones, but was not as effective as garlic dissolved in chloroform and methanol.”
Best of Luck! Dawn

StudentTopic AuthorJust checking in Dawn to see if you found any success with the Garlic Juice. I have been using the garlic since December and not finding any help. How are you finding the garlic method?

Homestead InstructorYeah. Garlic juice is often quite good. Any of the latex sap from plants like dandelion or milkweed is good too.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentTopic AuthorThank you so much for your advice Doc. Jones! How many times a day would you recommend doing this? I have tried milk weed sap but not sure how often to do this. Right now I am doing Garlic once a day. Thanks again. Jenny

StudentThis is fascinating! I am in the same boat as you are, Jenny. I have tried dozens of things and non of the OTC, duct tape, banana peel… has worked to remove an ugly wart from my hand. I have not tried garlic, dandelion, or milkweed. Brand new student and I have already learned a lot by reviewing the forum.

StudentWow, 13 years is a long time! When was the last time you had a complete blood work up? Sometimes a good thorough blood test can reveal if the immune system is slacking. A few years ago, my late husband and I watched a fascinating series called “Embarrassing Bodies” (BBC Production). This little girl came in with an extreme case of very painful plantar warts on her feet (it was unbelievable). The doctor became immediately suspicious that the little girl’s immune system had something missing. He sent her for tests, and sure enough, she was missing a “factor something” or other, that allowed this virus to get out of control. The poor little girl had to be isolated in hospital for a few months while she received treatment, but a year later, her feet were smooth and healthy again. So maybe get a blood test, just to make sure your immune system has everything it needs to do its job. And if it doesn’t, then you’ll have a better idea of what herbs you need to be consuming.
