I’m looking for a good source/reference (book or chart or the like) that will explain the vitamins and mineral from herbs and plants in my area (western US). For example, there is so much information on the health benefits of wild salmon; it comes up all over the place in my research. But, it is not available local. I’m wondering what is a good replacement for this type of nutrition. Herbs are packed with goodness and so I am wondering if there is a book or something that might save me having to research every single vitamin and mineral source. I’m hoping someone else has already done that and put it into easily accessible form, maybe a list of the vitamin and then all the herbs high in that vitamin.

BTW, when I found out purslane was a great source of omega 3 it made me very happy because now I can get my daily omega 3 free in my organically grown weed patch. 🙂

Any suggestions on a good source?

I know that the Michael Moore books have a list of the active ingredients for each herb when they are available. I am not sure if some of the names he uses are for vitamins or not though.

Im not aware of a specific chart.

As Steven said, Michael Moore talks about it. The internet has a lot of that sort of data. Try wikipedia on specific plants. It usually mentions the vitamins.

As for a good source for purslane…I’d recommend a place with dirt…or at least near dirt. That’s where I usually find it.

You’re welcome to come to my place and dig up as many starts as you like. 🙂

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
