I’m a new student doing my first assignment. Are there herbal remedies that would support my long-haired cat’s digestive system to more efficiently pass through hairballs? Aside from daily combings (and wiping fur afterwards w/ damp cloth), adding a bit of pumpkin or olive oil to food, offering fresh wheatgrass … my cat still struggles with pushing through any hair/fur he “eats.” Thanks!

In addition to what you’re doing, marshmallow can something make things more slickery. That and some canned pumpkin will often help things move along. :0)

If those aren’t enough, the OTC hairball preparations work well.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I, too, am a new student, replying per the assignment.  But interestingly, I have the same question regarding hairballs. My situation is complicated by the fact that we’ve only had the cats for 2 weeks.  The kittens are litter mates with only one being affected  – so far.  But since they are long-haired, we seek advise on this issue.  After an exam with our vet, we will continue to investigate and explore how to support the kittens as holistically as possible.

Thanks to all who share their experiences and knowledge.
