Hi all,
I would be very grateful to get information and understanding on the following :
I am trying to make medicinal herbs – powder with no residue.
The technique would be to make very concentrated tea infusion, and get that infusion dry or freeze dried, so that I will be left with powder from the residue.
My question is, how much herbs can I use in order to get the most concentrated infusion?
Also, is it better to boil the herbs in order to get the “goodness” of the leaves? Or , as my husband the herbalist (what a wonderful title) , that would harm it….
Thank you all for reading and giving your time!

Heat does different things to different herbs. You will need to know what your resulting effect would be and which chemicals accomplish that. Then you would need to know if heat affected that particular chemical.

Homestead InstructorI think your premise is flawed. Why not just keep the powdered herb or make a tincture? I think the shelf life of your post-processed, cooked and dried powder will be very short.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentWhat is the shelf life of an infusion of just water and herb if it sits at room temperature?
What is the shelf life of an infusion of just water and herb if it is in the fridge?
Please don’t say “few days” because “few” is different for everyone. Can you give me a number of days or hours?
Along these same lines, do some plants last longer than others as an infusion? If they vary, is there a place I can find this information on each plant? Or is there a constituent that preserves a plant longer that I can look for in the plant as I study it?
Thanks so much!

I wouldn’t keep a tea more than 2-3 days in the fridge.
If you want something with better shelf life, make a tincture.

StudentWill adding an antibacterial herb to an infusion make it last longer? If so, how long?
Thanks.
