StudentIs it actually possible to get rid of these painful suckers with herbs, or is surgery inevitable? My husband just had his first attack that landed him in hospital and ultrasound showed a gallstone, I don’t know the details of how large…but they are wanting to operate. I am not so keen without first looking at some herbal interventions. Appreciate advice on this. I see the cholecystitis and gall stones formulas…how effective are they really? He was in a LOT of pain last night and it took a good while for the morphine to work.

Homestead InstructorIt depends a lot on the size of the stone. The Gall bladder and bile duct does seem to help with the movement of small stones that are plugging things up.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentTopic AuthorUltrasound ….”suggestive of small calculi/gravel, gallbladder wall is oedematous, (also a mention of fatty liver disease – hepatosteatosis noted, which we weren’t told but I see it on the report.)
So, the cholecystitis and gall stones formulas….combine both, or just one or the other? And how do you recommend taking them. I bought a bunch of herbs/powders yesterday so I have gravel root, marshmellow powder, turmeric powder, lobelia, ginger powder, dandelion, wild yam, burdock, crampbark, valerian. No parsley root, don’t really want to dig up my plant! What is the best way to use these, tincturing will take too long! Can I make “tea” with them in the parts listed? I’m just not sure how strong to make a cup of tea, so if you say 1 part of each, what would be the total quantity for one cup of tea? Are we talking a TBSP of herbs in total steeped in one cup of water? or more than that? Sorry about all the questions, I’m a complete beginner with your formulas, and need more details on how to actually use them in real life! I also bought a roasted dandelion coffee subsititute that contains chicory and dandelion root…
Not sure if surgery can be avoided, but I sure like the challenge of trying. Any other tips?

You can take them both.

The herbs don’t care how you get them into your body. Make up the formulas and then make a tincture, tea, or throw the powder into some juice or applesauce. I’d do 1-2 tsp of the powder twice daily. Some herbs aren’t safe for pregnancy or lactation and some shouldn’t be combined with drugs.

Put 1-2 tsp per cup of water. Look at the Medicine Making Lesson on Infusions. Lots of good info there. :0)

Questions are how we learn things. It wouldn’t be much of an herb school if you couldn’t ask lots of questions. :0)

Student10-15 Years ago I had an ultrasound as part of a physical, learned I had 5 gallstones. one of them size of a marble Dr. wanted to set up appointment for surgery. I said no. He explained how to identify an attack and told me to go to hospital immediately if I had one. Since then, I have only had 2 serious attacks and 1 mild one. Flax seed tea made noticeable change within 15 minutes. Also read that eating radishes helps to breakdown gallstones. Don’t know if I still have any stones left but no problems for years.
CAUTION A friend was awaiting gallbladder surgery snd tried the tea. It helped move the stone but it was too big and caused difficulties

StudentThanks for these answers… regarding gallbladder issues, where do I find info on which herbs are not for lactating mothers? Is there a simple herb or two you’d recommend that I can give to my friend who’s a new mother with gallbladder issues? Thanks!

StudentHey Doc with a diagnosis of Biliary Dyskinesia would you still use the Cholecystitis formula. My understanding is that the gallbladder is not contracting correctly. HIDA scan/test showed my gallbladder is ejecting at a 19% where a normal gallbladder would eject at 35% or higher. I of course have been referred to the Surgeon. That is a significant difference. However all my blood work and urinalysis came back clear for any possible liver involvement or proteins in the urine. I would much preferer a natural approach than a knife if I can avoid it.

Homestead InstructorI’d sure try it. The knife option isn’t going anywhere if the herbs don’t work.

StudentTopic AuthorThought I would post an update on here as we are almost a year on from hubby’s first gallstone attack. He took gentian tincture, and has been taking roasted dandelion and chicory coffee on a fairly regular basis (every night initially, not quite so freqently now) I didn’t end up using the herbs I bought that I posted about initally 😆
He has had no more issues at all. Yay! Glad we declined the surgery, and hopefully he will stay pain free!
