My mom broke her leg in multiple places the other day and is in a lot of pain right now. This got me thinking, what options do herbalists have for serious pain?

Are there any? Or are they are regulated to the hilt?

For dull, aching pain anywhere (and particularly in the genitals of either sex) black cohosh is excellent. It’s especially good for pain that feels better by warming up.

For nerve pain and neuralgia, St. John’s is good. Skullcap is also good.

Turmeric and Boswellia together are excellent for inflammatory pain particularly in the joints as is yucca ( a cortisone pre-curser).

Willow is good if you take enough…about an ounce for some adults.

Teasel root is also good for some types of nerve and muscle pain. I had really good luck on a lady with nerve entrapment from scar tissue following an accident. I also had an amazing response to teasel from a lady with MS.

Valerian can be good for pain as well as the anxiety/stress it causes.

Lobelia or crampbark are very good if the pain is from (or is causing) muscle spasms.

For local tooth pain, cloves or yarrow root are excellent topically.

For cluster headaches or migraines, feverfew is good and clematis often works for headaches/migraines when nothing else will.

For chronic, unretractable, severe pain like bone cancer or for grizzly post-apocalypse wound pain, marijuana is excellent (where legal and strictly medicinal). It’s far too addictive to play around with for sprained ankles and headaches and whatnot.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I just joined so I am not sure how to post a question but I was thinking of using feverfew tincture for migraines. My daughter gets them all the time, has some sort of headache more often than not and migraines almost weekly. She has been taking prescription meds but lately they haven’t been helping. Any suggestions?Might feverfew help? Is it used daily as prevention or just when headaches start?
