Our 13 year old granddaughter was recently diagnosed with Inattentive ADD.  She is a brilliant child, but has trouble concentrating on her harder subjects.  She also has trouble sleeping. She is currently trying some herbal remedies to help with sleep, but they haven’t noticed that it’s helping yet.  Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks. 🙂

          Hi Beth,

Doc says people with ADD/ADHD are wired backwards a bit, so stimulants will help calm while sedatives will give energy. Check out the lesson on the Nervous System 2: Issues & Interventions  starting at 16:42. Also you can find Doc’s Focus formula in the Formulas section

I have ADD and have similar issues, I can only offer what I’ve found to help but none of it is a sure fire fix. Like always, everyone’s body responds differently, especially at different stages of life.

For sleep, I found my main issue was nervous energy, and my mind wouldn’t quiet down long enough to conk out.

I eat a few pitted jujube a couple hours before bed (they are chinese red dates and can be found on amazon) along with an easy herbal tea mix: equal parts of milky oats, holy basil, lemon balm, and rooibos tea. These mostly calm vs put someone to sleep, acting more like a nudge in the right direction.

For focus, I found for my own body’s makeup, that siberian ginseng, lions’ mane mushroom, and brahmi did the trick. I accidentally spilled brahmi tincture on my hand one day while helping a friend bottle up their batch and a few minutes later… my brain was quiet. For the first time. It was wild!

                  Hope this helps!
