StudentI’d like to know what herbs can help me get my body ready to conceive. I’m nursing an 11 1/2 month old and have not yet had a menstrual cycle, so what should I take to prepare myself?

StudentI wonder if some nutritive herbs would be most helpful. Nursing a babe takes a lot out of you! (Mama who has nursed seven here…)

Homestead InstructorI agree with Rae. I wouldn’t do anything herbally “hormonal” about it. But I would do some nutritives to get the body happy and ready. Nettles would be great. Have a look at the herbs in the Nutritive formula for some ideas.. All of those except yellow dock and chaga are safe during lactation.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentTopic AuthorThank you, Doc! I don’t see that yellow dock is on the ingredient list in the Nutritive tincture, so I guess I’m ok there! (I think I’ll also have to re-read over Jacob’s account to see what tree branches he used to get his flock to conceive! ????)

StudentWhen we refer to nettles, is it the leaf that we are talking about?

StudentDoes anyone know what Jacob actually did? I think that has remained a mystery for thousands of years!

Homestead InstructorMany reports suggest that Jacob actually cheated by asking The Lord for help with his flock management strategies rather than just relying on the tree bark. This is a tactic often used by good herbalists to make the dang plants work better than they should. Scandalous really.
That said, there are some tree barks (inner bark/cambium) that have a reputation for improving fertility. Oak, willow and almond are among them. I have no idea if any of those grew in the Middle East back in the day. Also, I wouldn’t use any of them while nursing.

I am a lactation consultant and I love learning what is safe and not safe for lactation. I am totally new to this school and am so excited to learn how to use God’s plants, our weeds, to take charge of our health!
